The tour of Peshkopi will delight visitors and introduce them to the rich history, culture and heritage of the city, starting with the old quarter, the city’s suburbs, the museum, the promenade, and its administrative and social life.
Peshkopi is the center of Dibër Municipality, consisting of 141 villages and Diber County, which and has 3 other municipalities: Mat, Bulqizë and Klos. It is thought that the name of Peshkopi is related to the existence of the “Episcopate of Stefanika”, since 1020.The name Peskopatë=Peshkopate=Peshkopi.

8:30 Experience in the old town of Peshkopi

Begin either tour with your knowledgeable guide and get acquainted with the Bazaar Quarter, the Tekke of Peshkopi and the old history of the town. The Tekke of Peshkopi, in addition to religious services, also provided medical services to all residents. People educated in Istanbul, thanks to their knowledge and using the therapeutic properties of the local thermal waters, helped residents treat diseases such as rheumatism, parasitosis, etc. Visitors can watch artisans create hand-madeitems in the craft shops at the Bazaar. They will wander and explore the old alleyways,and stop at the house of Lavdërim Shehu, which served as the First City Hall (1920) located next to the currentmunicipality (Bashkia) building.

9:30 Visit the old city neighborhood and the thermal spa center of Peshkopi

On foot, visitors will cross the cobbled streets of the old city, along houses of many residents coming from Great Debar, mostly merchants and craftsmen. There are several characteristic constructions along the alley in Dublec including the water fountain and the house of Sul Shehu, the first mayor and the founder of modern Peshkopi in King Zog’s time.

11:00 Viewing area of the Healing Valley

From the viewing point, above the former Hidro Power Plant of Peshkopi, you have the opportunity to overlook the Healing Valley, Mount of Skërteci, the Highland Pasture (bjeshkë) of Rabdisht, and Mount of Zimur, which are part of Korab-Korritnik Nature Park. Opposite is Borovik of Begjunec, one of the 41 nature monuments of Dibra. Visitors are also acquainted with Bishop pasture in Staravec. Ecclesiastical centers, from which Peshkopi got its name, are thought to have been located there. Thermal waters were previously managed by churches, which generated income from their use.

12:00 Visit to Peshkopi Spa Baths.

At the Peshkopi Spa Baths, your guide will explain the history of this center, the services and the treatments being performed. You can visit the baths with thermal waters and the source of thermal waters.”Gradishta of Begjuneci” is a historical ruins, also can visit.

12:30 Experience at old water mill of Saraçi family 

Here you will see the special construction style and the work done in the water mill. You can see the cold-water sources, which are also used for healing purposes.

13:00 You can have lunch at the restaurants near the thermal waters center (Llixha) or in the down-town restaurants.

9:30 Visit to the ruins of Gradishta

After touring the Old Bazaar, your guide will bring you up to the Dobrovë neighborhood, one of the urban neighborhoods with an agricultural orientation. On the hill behind the Spa Baths Hotel (Llixhat), the ruins of Gradisht are located,where archaeological excavations indicate an early settlement. It is also believed that there are ruins of the churches of Shqefn, the tribe which is still living in Peshkopi.

From Gradishta, you will see the most beautiful view of the Healing Valley, the location of the thermal water complex of the Baths.

10:30 Visit to the agricultural park of Begjunec.

A tour to the agricultural park of Begjunec passes through the village, which is famous for its agricultural products, vegetables and fruit trees. The climb continues to Kuplan Lake, where the view of the Black Drin Valley and Peshkopi is stunning. The journey lasts 2.5 hours and the return to the city takes 60 minutes.

14:30 Walking in main Boulevard of the city or “Linden trees Boulevard”

The tour starts at the building of the Municipality. We will walk the main boulevard of the city(the promanade), to the former municipal building – an old characteristic building, to the Prefecture building and other institutions as Peshkopi is the center of Dibër County.

A walk on the “Linden Trees Boulevard,” famous for the relaxing walks of citizens, love stories and fashion parades in the years of socialism, continues with a visit to Elez Isufi’s bust (alias the Mountain Bear), the icon of war and resistance against the Serb. You may stop and visit the Tourist Information Center, along the boulevard, where you can pick-up more information about  tourist attractions of Dibër and buy souvenirs. Then a visit to the “Haki Stërmilli” Palace of Culture, where various concerts are held, as well as the “Oda Dibrane” festival, with participation from all Albanian territories. This palace is named after the Dibra writer, Haki Stërmilli, the first Albanian novelist, author of the novel “If I were a boy”. Haki Stërmilli was the first chairman of Dibër County after World War II. With his care, using the bricks of the army barracks, he built the former Executive Committee building at the end of the boulevard.

15:30 Tour of the museum and Historical monuments

A stop along the promenade, in front of the Palace of Culture, is the Skanderbeg monument portraying him standing and without his helmet. This monument is a tribute to his place of origin, as he was a son of Dibër.

The next stop at the Gymnasium building, where one of the first Pedagogical Schools in Albania was opened. It prepared teachers for the entire North of Albania. In front of this building, there are the busts of two of the historical figures of Dibër: Dom Nikoll Kaçorri and Haxhi Vehbi Dibra. Their standing side by side shows the religious tolerance that has always accompanied this community. There are many examples of coexistence of various religious communities, from Kërçisht to Lura.

Next is a visit to the Historic Museum of Dibër. In this museum there are the archaeological, ethnographic and historic pavilions.

16:00 Enjoy a coffee, drink, and try some local raki, in one of the bars along the promenade.

16:30 Visiting the town quarters;

Visitors are acquainted with the characteristic constructions of cities in communist times, as well as their social organization. Visit to a fortified center, and to the city stadium.

17:30 Accommodation and Dinner
